For most adults and kids 12 and over, the usual dose of Pepto Bismol chewable tablets is:

  • 2 chewable tablets every 30–60 minutes as needed , and
  • You can also do 4 tablets every hour for diarrhea , if needed.
  • Do not take more than 16 tablets in 24 hours (that’s 8 doses of 2 tablets).

  • Fully chew the tablets before swallowing.
  • Only for adults and children 12 years and older ; younger kids should use a children’s product recommended by a doctor.
  • Don’t use it for more than 2 days for diarrhea or stomach symptoms without talking to a healthcare professional.
  • Avoid it (and call a doctor) if you are pregnant, on blood thinners, have bleeding issues, aspirin/salicylate allergy, or possible viral illness in a child/teen (because of Reye’s syndrome risk).

If you’ve already taken more than 16 chewables in 24 hours, or you notice ringing in the ears, confusion, breathing problems, or unusual bleeding or bruising, contact a doctor or poison control right away.
