A standard American football game has four quarters.

Each game is split into two halves:

  • First half: 1st and 2nd quarters.
  • Second half: 3rd and 4th quarters.

In most leagues:

  • NFL and college: four 15‑minute quarters (60 minutes total game time).
  • High school: four 12‑minute quarters (48 minutes total game time).
