David had five stones with him when he went to face Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17, it says that David chose “five smooth stones” from a brook and put them in his shepherd’s bag before walking out with his sling to confront the giant. He only needed one stone to bring Goliath down, but he had four more ready—often understood as simple practical preparation rather than lack of faith.
