By the time of his death in June 1981, Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope and the national telethon had raised about 24 million Canadian dollars for cancer research, roughly one dollar for every Canadian at the time.

Since then, annual Terry Fox Runs and related events have continued to add to that legacy, and cumulative fundraising in his name has grown to well over 800–950 million dollars for cancer research as of the mid‑2020s.
