To add emoji to an Outlook email, place your cursor where you want it, then open the emoji picker with Windows key + . or Windows key + ; , and click the emoji you want to insert.

Outlook desktop

On Windows, the easiest method is the built-in emoji panel. In Outlook, start a new email, click in the message body, press Win + . or Win + ; , then pick an emoji from the panel.

Outlook on the web

If you use Outlook.com or Outlook on the web, open a new message and use the Emoji or Insert emojis and GIFs button in the composer toolbar, then select an emoji to add it.

Other ways

You can also:

  • Type a text emoticon like :-) if Outlook converts it for you.
  • Copy and paste an emoji from another source into the email.
  • Use an add-in if you want extra emoji options.

Quick tip

If the emoji panel is hard to find, use the search box inside it to type a word like “smile” or “heart” and narrow the results.
