how to add songs to spotify
Quick Scoop
To add songs to Spotify, there are two common cases: adding a song to a playlist or adding a local audio file that isn’t already on Spotify. For regular songs, open the track, tap or click the three dots, and choose Add to playlist or Save to your liked songs.
Add a song to a playlist
- Open Spotify and find the song.
- Tap or click the three dots next to the track.
- Choose Add to playlist.
- Pick an existing playlist or create a new one.
This works on Spotify’s app and is the simplest way to organize songs you already found on Spotify.
Add local files
If the song is not on Spotify, you can use local files on desktop. Turn on local files in Spotify settings, add the folder where your audio file is stored, then go to Local Files in your library and add the track to a playlist.
On mobile
Spotify’s local-file setup is usually easiest on a computer first, then the playlist can be downloaded or synced to your phone if supported by your setup. For songs already on Spotify, mobile is simple: open the track, tap the three dots, and add it to a playlist.
Example
If you find a song you like, tap the three dots and add it to your “Favorites” playlist. If you have an MP3 from your computer, put it in a folder, enable local files, and then add that file into a playlist.
TL;DR
Use three dots > Add to playlist for songs already on Spotify, or enable local files on desktop for songs stored on your device.
