The new Election Card / Voter ID in India is applied for online through the Election Commission’s citizen portal, where eligible citizens can register as new voters by submitting personal details and documents. The official service is fully online and starts from the national voter registration portal.

How to apply online

  1. Go to the official voter portal: voters.eci.gov.in.
  1. Sign up or log in with your mobile number and account details.
  1. Choose New Voter Registration or Fill Form 6.
  1. Enter your personal details, address, and constituency information.
  1. Upload the required documents and photo.
  1. Review the form, submit it, and save the reference number for tracking.

Documents usually needed

  • Proof of age, such as a birth certificate or school certificate.
  • Proof of address, such as an बिजली bill, gas bill, bank passbook, or rent agreement.
  • Identity proof, such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport, or driving licence.
  • Passport-size photo, as requested on the portal.

Eligibility

You must be an Indian citizen, normally 18 years or older, and living at the address you declare for registration.

After submission

Once submitted, the application is verified by election अधिकारियों, and you can track status using the reference number or download the acknowledgement slip from the portal. If approved, your voter entry is created and the physical card is usually sent later by post, while digital services may also be available through the portal.

Important note

Use the official Election Commission portal rather than third-party sites, because the government service is the authoritative place for new voter registration.
