In Horizon Zero Dawn , you call your mount by selecting Call Mount in the tool wheel, then pressing the use button. On PlayStation, that’s typically the D-pad down after you’ve highlighted the Call Mount icon; on keyboard, it’s the R key.

What you need first

You have to have an overridden mount nearby, like a Strider or Charger, before the call works normally. In the game’s progression, mount use is unlocked after the relevant override ability is obtained.

Controls

  • Controller: open the tool wheel, select Call Mount , then press D-pad down.
  • Keyboard: select Call Mount with the tool selection keys, then press R.
  • If you want to swap tool-wheel items on keyboard, players report using Z and X to scroll through the tool slots.

Extra tip

If you unlock Call Mount+ , you can summon a mount even without one already nearby. That makes travel much easier once you have the skill.
