To find where you died in Minecraft, check your death coordinates in chat first, then use your current coordinates or a Recovery Compass to go back. In many cases, the death message shows the exact X, Y, Z location, and newer versions also have a Recovery Compass that points to your last death spot.

Fastest methods

  • Press T and scroll up in chat to find the death message with coordinates.
  • If you play Java Edition , press F3 to see coordinates while traveling back.
  • If you are on 1.19+ , craft or use a Recovery Compass to point to your last death location.
  • On modded Java, waypoint or minimap mods can automatically mark death points.

If you already respawned

  • Use the coordinates from the death message if they were visible in chat.
  • If you missed them, a Recovery Compass is the easiest in-game tool for finding the death site in supported versions.
  • On worlds you own, advanced players can also check world or player data files for the last death location.

Important note

  • Items despawn after a few minutes, so head back quickly once you have the location.
  • If your message meant something different by “mim death,” the most likely Minecraft fix is still to check chat coordinates or use a Recovery Compass.

TL;DR: Open chat, find the death message, read the coordinates, or use a Recovery Compass in 1.19+.
