To use American Airlines Touchless ID, first make sure you’re an AAdvantage member, add your Known Traveler Number and valid passport to your profile, then opt in to TSA PreCheck Touchless ID in your American account or app. After that, check in on the American app and look for the Touchless ID symbol on your mobile boarding pass before using the dedicated lane at a participating airport.

How to set it up

  1. Log in to your AAdvantage account.
  2. Go to Information and password.
  3. Under Secure traveler , save your passport and Known Traveler Number.
  4. Make sure your name, date of birth, and passport number match exactly.
  5. Select the box for TSA PreCheck Touchless ID and save.

How to use it

  • Check in for your flight in the American app.
  • Confirm the Touchless ID symbol appears on your mobile boarding pass.
  • Follow signs to the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID lane at an eligible airport.
  • A face scan verifies your identity, so you usually do not need to show a physical ID or boarding pass in the lane, though TSA may still ask for them.

Important details

  • Participation is optional and lasts 12 months once you opt in.
  • You can opt out anytime in your AAdvantage preferences.
  • It’s available at American’s hub airports and additional U.S. airports, but not everywhere.
  • You still should carry your physical ID because TSA can request it.

Quick tip

If you do not see the option in the app, try updating your AAdvantage profile on the website and then checking in again in the app, since the Touchless ID symbol only appears after you’re enrolled and on an eligible trip.
