Quick Scoop

To get out of Haemar’s Shame in Skyrim , follow the dungeon route until you reach the boss area, then use the shortcut exit behind the shrine to leave. There’s also a chain near the barred door in the Clavicus Vile area that can lower the iron bars if you’re trying to backtrack through that section.

Exit Route

  • Move through the cave normally until you reach the main shrine room.
  • Go up the stairs on either side of the shrine area.
  • Look for the unlocked boss-chest area behind the shrine; that upper path leads to a shortcut exit.
  • If you’re stuck at the barred gate near Clavicus Vile, interact with the chain on the wall just to the right of the door to open it.

If you’re in the quest

In “A Daedra’s Best Friend,” Haemar’s Shame is part of Barbas’s route, so the cave may feel a little more linear than a normal dungeon run. The practical move is to push through the encounters, grab what you need, and use the rear exit rather than trying to force your way back through every room.

Combat note

If the vampires are the problem rather than the exit, the area can be rough at low level, and several player guides suggest coming back later or using stealth/ranged damage if needed. A simple example: clear the shrine room, then head up the side stairs instead of trying to fight your way all the way back through the front path.

Bottom line

The fastest way out is usually the back/upper shortcut exit , while the chain beside the barred door is the key interaction if you’re trapped in the Clavicus Vile section.
