The Fat Cat minion in FFXIV is usually obtained in one of two ways: send a Fisher retainer on the relevant Waterside Exploration ventures, or buy it from the Market Board. The retainer route is the “farm it yourself” method, but it’s RNG-based and can take a while.

How to get it

  1. Level a retainer as Fisher to at least level 50.
  1. Send that retainer on Waterside Exploration ventures that can drop it, starting with XIV and XV and later versions as well.
  1. Wait for the venture to complete, which takes about 18 hours.
  1. If you do not want to farm, check the Market Board and buy one from another player.

Notes

  • The minion is not guaranteed from each venture, so repeated tries may be needed.
  • Prices on the Market Board vary a lot by server, so buying can be cheap on one world and expensive on another.
  • Some guides also mention event or container-based sources in certain cases, but the Fisher retainer venture and Market Board are the main practical methods.
