You make a new island area in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream by growing your Mii population, not by buying a separate island or pressing a special create button. The first expansion appears to unlock when you reach 8 Miis , and the game then expands the island automatically.

How it works

  • Add more Miis to your island through the normal Mii creation process.
  • Keep them happy and progressing so you can continue unlocking new milestones.
  • When the population hits the required threshold, the island expands on its own with a short cutscene.
  • After that, you can shape the new space using Island Builder.

Using Island Builder

Once Island Builder is available, open the menu and switch to the landscaping tools. You can turn ocean tiles into land such as grass, sand, or concrete, and you can paint tiles one by one or in larger areas.

Practical tip

If your goal is a bigger island fast, focus on making more Miis early rather than decorating first. One guide says later expansion milestones also exist beyond the first one, so the island keeps opening up as your population grows.

TL;DR

Reach the Mii-count milestone, let the game trigger the expansion, then use Island Builder to turn the new sea space into usable land.
