You can’t place an empty hive by itself in HiveUP ; you first need to use it to catch bees from a swarm. The usual flow is: buy or equip the Empty Hive, stand under a bee swarm, shake it so the bees drop into it, then place the now-filled hive on your plot.

How it works

  1. Get an Empty Hive.
  2. Find a bee swarm on a tree.
  3. Equip the Empty Hive and stand directly under the swarm.
  4. Shake the swarm.
  5. Once bees drop into it, place the hive in your area.

Common confusion

The game guides and player tips suggest the item is meant for catching bees , not for placing as a blank object first. That’s why it may seem like “nothing happens” if you try to place it empty.

Quick fix

If it still won’t work, try these:

  • Make sure you are standing right under the swarm.
  • Re-equip the Empty Hive before shaking.
  • Reconnect if the game seems bugged, since that has been reported as a fix.

TL;DR: You don’t place an empty hive directly; you use it under a swarm to collect bees, then place the hive after it’s filled.
