To see name history in Redtail, open the contact record and check the personal information fields where previous or alternate names are stored, such as maiden name or other misc. personal info fields. Redtail also has a contact search/reporting workflow that can help you find records tied to a previous name, and some older name data may only appear after you open the full contact profile or related notes/history areas.

Where to look

  • Open the contact record.
  • Check Misc. Personal Information for maiden name or prior name fields.
  • Use the contact’s notes/history areas if your office stored name changes there.
  • Try advanced search or reports if you need to locate a person by an old name.

Practical tip

If you are trying to find a renamed client, search both the current legal name and any maiden or former name. In some Redtail setups, the old name is not a separate “history” log but a field on the contact record, so the exact location can vary by configuration.

If it is not visible

If you do not see any prior-name field, it may be because your firm has not enabled or populated it. In that case, the fastest route is usually to check the contact dashboard, notes, and search filters together.
