The quickest way is to look for the set code and the pack’s theme card. Jumpstart product often has a front card that names the pack’s theme, and pack-cover cards from Jumpstart 2022 show a small set code like “J22” in the lower corner; that card is usually not a playable card itself.

What to check

  • Bottom corner set code. A code like JMP , J21 , J22 , or a newer Jumpstart code is the biggest clue.
  • Theme/title card. Jumpstart packs are built around a single theme, and the front card often identifies that theme rather than acting like a normal Magic card.
  • Card list style. Jumpstart is a supplemental product with mostly reprints plus some new cards, so the contents may include cards from many different printings, not just one set.
  • Not the same as “jump-start.” If the card says “jump-start” on an instant or sorcery, that is a keyword ability, not the Jumpstart product.

Fast identification tip

If you have the card in hand, scan the lower-left or lower-right corner first. For pack-cover cards, that tiny set marker is often enough to tell you it came from a Jumpstart release.

Example

A card with a visible J22 marker and a title like a pack theme is likely a Jumpstart 2022 pack card, not a normal standalone print.

TL;DR

Look for the set code in the corner and the theme/title card. If it has a Jumpstart code and is acting like a pack front card, it’s from a Jumpstart product.
