India currently imports most of its LPG from Middle Eastern countries, with a growing share now coming from the United States.

Main source countries for LPG import in India

As of recent years, India’s key LPG import partners have been:

  • Saudi Arabia (one of the largest suppliers under long‑term contracts).
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE).
  • Qatar.
  • Kuwait.
  • United States (rapidly rising share from 2024 onward).

These Middle Eastern countries together supply the bulk of India’s LPG imports, historically around 80–90% of imported volumes. The US has emerged as a strategic additional source as India diversifies away from over‑dependence on West Asia.

What’s new from 2026?

From the contract year 2026, India’s state‑owned oil companies (IOC, BPCL, HPCL) have signed a structured one‑year deal to import about 2.2 million tonnes per annum of LPG from the US Gulf Coast.

  • This volume is close to 10% of India’s annual LPG imports.
  • It is benchmarked to the Mount Belvieu pricing hub in the US.
  • The deal is described by India’s petroleum minister as a ā€œhistoric firstā€ structured LPG contract with the US.

So, going forward, India’s LPG import in 2026 and beyond will mainly be from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and now also significantly from the United States.
