The main buildings hit on 9/11 were:

  • The North Tower (WTC 1) of the World Trade Center in New York City, struck by American Airlines Flight 11 at 8:46 a.m.
  • The South Tower (WTC 2) of the World Trade Center, struck by United Airlines Flight 175 at 9:03 a.m.
  • The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, struck by American Airlines Flight 77 at 9:37 a.m.

A fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93 , crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers resisted the hijackers; it is widely believed the intended target was a major government building in Washington, D.C., such as the U.S. Capitol.
