Viserys had a form of leprosy in House of the Dragon. The show kept the exact diagnosis a little ambiguous at first, but actor Paddy Considine later described it as leprosy, and multiple coverage pieces repeat that explanation.

What that means

  • It’s often referred to as Hansen’s disease in modern medical terms.
  • In the show, it was used partly as a metaphor for the toll of power and rule.
  • Some viewers speculated about other conditions, but leprosy is the clearest supported answer from cast and coverage.

Quick note

In the book material, the illness is not named as clearly as it is in the show coverage.
