“Announce Calls” on iPhone means Siri speaks the caller’s name, number, or “Unknown Caller” out loud when a call comes in. It’s meant to help you know who’s calling without looking at your phone, especially when your hands are busy or you’re driving.

How it works

  • If the caller is in your contacts, Siri announces their name.
  • If the number isn’t saved, Siri may read the number or say “Unknown Caller.”
  • You can control when it happens: Always, Headphones & Car, Headphones Only, or Never.

Where to find it

On many iPhones, it’s in Settings > Siri or Settings > Phone, depending on iOS version.

Simple example

If your friend calls and they’re saved in your contacts, your iPhone can say, “Alice calling,” instead of just ringing silently.

The feature is built into iPhone and doesn’t require a separate app.
