A place is double landlocked when it has no coastline and every country (or state) around it also has no direct access to the sea or ocean.

In practical terms, that means:

  • The country itself is landlocked.
  • All of its neighbors are also landlocked.
  • To reach an ocean coast, you must cross at least two international borders.

Only two countries in the world meet this definition: Liechtenstein in Europe and Uzbekistan in Central Asia.
