Luffy first unlocks the major Gear forms in Episode 272 (Gear 2), Episode 288 (Gear 3), Episode 726 (Gear 4), and Episode 1071 (Gear 5) of One Piece.

Quick note

Luffy does not have a “Gear 1” transformation in the usual sense; his base form is just his normal body with the rubber ability from the Devil Fruit.
