Coastal Carolina University’s mascot is a teal-and-bronze rooster named Chauncey the Chanticleer.

The school’s teams are called the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, a name that comes from the proud, clever rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Nun’s Priest’s Tale” from The Canterbury Tales.
