Quick Scoop: In Genshin Impact, pity is the counter that tracks how many wishes you’ve made on a banner since your last 4-star or 5-star reward; once you hit certain thresholds, the game guarantees a higher-rarity pull.

How it works

  • Each banner tracks pity separately , so wishes on the Character Event Banner do not carry over to the Standard Banner.
  • Pity resets when you get a 5-star on that banner.
  • For the Character Event Banner , players commonly refer to soft pity around the mid-70s, when 5-star odds rise a lot, and hard pity at 90 wishes, where a 5-star is guaranteed.
  • There is also 4-star pity , meaning you’re guaranteed at least one 4-star item or character within 10 pulls.

50/50 in simple terms

On the limited character banner, when you finally hit a 5-star, there’s usually a 50/50 chance it will be the featured character; if you lose that roll, the next 5-star on that banner is guaranteed to be featured.

Example

If you have 30 pity , that means you’ve made 30 wishes since your last 5-star on that banner, so you’re 30 pulls closer to the next guaranteed 5-star.

TL;DR

Pity is basically Genshin’s “bad-luck protection”: the more you wish, the closer you get to a guaranteed 4-star or 5-star, and that progress is tracked separately for each banner.
