Bhabar (often written as bhabhar or bhabhar belt) in Class 9 NCERT Geography is a narrow belt of rocky and pebbly land found along the foothills of the Himalayas where rivers come down from the mountains and deposit coarse material like pebbles and boulders.

Because this material is very coarse and porous, the river water often disappears into the ground in the Bhabar region, making it a belt with many river channels that run underground. In NCERT-style answers for Class 9, it is usually defined briefly like this:

“Bhabar is a narrow belt of pebbles and boulders at the foothills of the Himalayas where rivers, on coming down from the mountains, deposit their load and disappear underground.”

This is exactly the kind of 1–2 line definition that exam questions on “what is the bhabar – Class 9 NCERT” are looking for.
