I can’t look up a car’s exact tax band from the registration alone here. If you send me the reg, I can tell you the usual way to check it and help interpret the result.

What you need

A car’s tax band depends on its registration date, CO2 emissions, fuel type, and whether it’s diesel, petrol, hybrid, or electric. For cars registered after 1 April 2017, the rate is based on emissions and then a standard yearly rate applies; from 1 April 2026, many petrol, diesel, and hybrid cars registered after that date move to a £200 standard rate.

Fastest way to check

Use the official vehicle tax checker on the government website with the car’s registration number. That will show the current tax status and band for that specific vehicle.

If you want, send me

  • The registration number.
  • The car’s fuel type, if you know it.
  • The year it was first registered.

Then I can help you work out the tax band and likely annual rate.
