Glow squids spawn below Y level 30 in current Minecraft versions. They also need to spawn in water, usually in dark underground or ocean areas.

  • Current spawn height: below Y=30.
  • Older versions: in 1.17, they could spawn below Y=63.
  • Where to look: underwater caves, deep ocean areas, and other dark water spaces.

Version note

If you’re playing on a newer version, use Y 30 or lower as the rule of thumb. If you’re checking an older world or guide, some sources may still say Y 63 , which only applied before the spawn change.
