The Day of Ashura falls on the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. In 2026, it begins on June 25.

What it means

Ashura is observed by Muslims in different ways, depending on tradition. For many Sunni المسلمين, it is associated with fasting and remembrance of Moses, while for many Shia Muslims it is a day of mourning for Husayn ibn Ali.

Quick note

Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, the Gregorian date changes each year.
