Press Shift + Enter to go to the next line in WhatsApp without sending the message. This works on WhatsApp Web and desktop, and if Enter is sending too soon, you can also turn off the “Enter is send” setting in WhatsApp’s chat settings.

Quick steps

  1. Type your message.
  2. Hold Shift.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Keep typing on the new line.

If that doesn’t work

  • Open WhatsApp settings.
  • Go to Chats.
  • Turn off Enter is send so Enter makes a new line instead of sending.

Device note

On some keyboards and apps, Ctrl + Enter may also create a new line in WhatsApp Web, but Shift + Enter is the most commonly reported shortcut.
