The 2022 film Death on the Nile (starring Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot) was filmed between late September and mid‑December 2019.

Main Filming Period

Principal photography for the movie began on September 30, 2019 , at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England. Most of the film was shot on soundstages and backlots in the UK, including a recreated Nile riverboat and sets standing in for Egyptian locations like Abu Simbel.

Filming wrapped on December 18, 2019 , after about 11 weeks of shooting. The production was originally planned to shoot in Morocco instead of Egypt, but ultimately stayed in England for the bulk of filming.

Second‑Unit and Location Work

While the main cast scenes were done in England, second‑unit crews did shoot some exterior and establishing footage in Aswan, Egypt , to capture authentic Nile and temple backdrops. These Egyptian location shots were then combined with the studio work to create the film’s lush, period‑Egypt setting.

Why the Dates Matter

Because of the COVID‑19 pandemic, the film’s release was delayed multiple times, but the actual filming was completed well before the pandemic hit. So, even though the movie came out in early 2022, the on‑set work all happened in that late‑2019 window.
