George Wallace was shot on May 15, 1972, while campaigning at the Laurel Shopping Center in Laurel, Maryland.

He was hit four times by Arthur Bremer during a presidential primary campaign stop, and the injuries left him paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life.
