J. Cole grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after moving there as a baby with his mother and older brother.

He was born on a U.S. Army base in Frankfurt, then–West Germany, but his family relocated to Fayetteville when he was about eight months old, and that city is where he spent his childhood and teen years.
