John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Newport, Rhode Island, on September 12, 1953.

They held the wedding Mass at St. Mary’s Church on Spring Street, a historic Catholic church in Newport that became famous partly because of their nuptials.

A large reception followed at Hammersmith Farm, an oceanfront estate in Newport that belonged to Jackie’s stepfather and later served as an informal “summer White House” during JFK’s presidency.
