Elena Rybakina is originally from Moscow, Russia, but she competes internationally for Kazakhstan.

She was born in Moscow on 17 June 1999 and grew up there. In 2018 she switched her sporting nationality after accepting support from the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation and acquired Kazakhstani citizenship, so on tour she is known as a Kazakhstani player, despite her Russian origins.
