where is night mode on iphone
Night mode on iPhone lives in two main places: the Camera app (for low‑light photos) and Settings > Display & Brightness (for a darker system look often called Dark Mode).
Camera Night mode (photos in the dark)
On newer iPhones (11 and later), Night mode is built into the Camera app and only shows up when the phone detects low light.
- Open the Camera app and make sure you’re on “Photo” mode.
- Point the camera at something in a dim or dark area.
- Look at the top of the screen for a small moon icon; when Night mode is available it appears there and turns yellow when it’s active.
- Tap the moon icon to adjust how long the exposure should be (the slider lets you pick how many seconds the phone gathers light), then hold your iPhone steady and take the picture.
A couple of quick notes:
- If you don’t see the moon at all, the scene may be too bright or your iPhone model may not support Night mode.
- Night mode turns on automatically in low light, so you can’t force it on in full daylight.
System “night” look (Dark Mode)
If what you mean is making the whole iPhone look dark (menus, backgrounds, etc.), that’s in Settings , not the Camera. This is often what people casually call “night mode.”
- Go to Settings > Display & Brightness.
- Under “Appearance,” choose Dark to switch the entire interface to a darker theme.
- You can also turn on Automatic so it uses Light in the day and Dark at night based on sunset/sunrise or a custom schedule.
This Dark appearance reduces glare in low light and pairs well with Camera Night mode for more comfortable nighttime use.
