POK, or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, is generally shown on the northwestern side of India’s map , in the broader Jammu and Kashmir region, beyond the Line of Control. In official Indian maps, it is treated as part of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, while Pakistan controls the area on the ground.

Where it sits

  • It lies to the northwest of mainland India, across the India-Pakistan boundary in the Himalayan region.
  • It is usually discussed as including areas such as Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan in public descriptions and maps.
  • The dividing line commonly referenced is the Line of Control, which separates Indian-administered and Pakistan-administered areas.

Simple way to picture it

If you look at a map of Jammu and Kashmir, POK is the part on the other side of the LoC, toward Pakistan’s side, not in central or southern India. The clearest shortcut is: northwest border region, near Jammu & Kashmir.

Quick note

Different maps may label the region differently depending on political or editorial context, but Indian official maps show the area as part of India’s territory.
