The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway in the Middle East between Iran to the north and the Musandam Peninsula of Oman and the United Arab Emirates to the south, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
It lies at approximately 26°36′N, 56°30′E and is the only sea passage out of the Persian Gulf, making it a major chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments.
