Leifnarr’s family is at Heartwood Mill , just west of Riften. The quest marker often doesn’t appear because this is a known bug: you usually need to speak to Grosta first, then find Leifnarr’s body, or the report option may never show up.

Where to go

  • Travel to Heartwood Mill west of Riften.
  • Talk to Grosta ; sometimes Gralnach is also there.
  • After that, go to Broken Helm Hollow to find Leifnarr.

Why the location may not show

  • The quest is bugged if you find Leifnarr before getting the objective from Grosta.
  • In that case, the game may not give you a map marker for the family.
  • On PC, a common fix is the console command setstage e3ea5 30.

What usually works

  1. Go to Heartwood Mill first.
  1. Speak to Grosta and accept the missing-husband objective.
  1. Then find Leifnarr in Broken Helm Hollow and return to her.

If you already found his body, the quest may be stuck unless you use the PC fix or reload an earlier save.
