The movie Groundhog Day was filmed primarily in the town of Woodstock, Illinois, which stood in for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania in the film. Some additional scenes, including road shots and establishing material, were filmed in other parts of Illinois and around the Pittsburgh area, but Woodstock’s town square and surrounding streets provide most of the recognizable locations you see on screen.
