“Uncle Buck” was filmed primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area, especially in Evanston and nearby North Shore suburbs in Illinois. A few additional scenes used other Illinois locations and some spots in Ontario, Canada.

Main filming locations

  • The Russell family house is a real home at 2602 Lincoln Street in Evanston, Illinois, used for the exterior family residence. Its front porch appears in several key scenes, including Buck’s confrontation with the clown.
  • Many neighborhood and driving shots were also done around Evanston and the broader Chicago North Shore, keeping the feel of a Midwest suburban community.

Notable Chicago-area spots

  • High school scenes were shot at New Trier High School (New Trier West campus) in Northfield, Illinois, and at New Trier’s Winnetka campus. These locations stand in for the teen characters’ school in the film.
  • Additional suburban filming took place in Northbrook, Riverwoods, Wheeling, and the Skokie Lagoons forest preserve area, all in the greater Chicago area.

Specific scene locations

  • The bowling alley interior was filmed at a former alley in Cicero, Illinois, once associated with the Windy City Bowling Association at 21st Street and Cicero Avenue. That building has since been replaced, but the address is still known among fans.
  • Bar/club scenes featuring Buck tracking down his niece were shot at a real Chicago bar location on North Milwaukee Avenue, adding a more urban contrast to the suburban house scenes.
