who created the grammys

The Grammys were created by leading U.S. recording-industry executives in the 1950s, who organized themselves as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (now The Recording Academy) to establish an awards system for music similar to the Oscars and Emmys. Key early figures included a founding committee of label executives such as Jesse Kaye (MGM Records), Lloyd Dunn and Richard Jones (Capitol), Sonny Burke and Milt Gabler (Decca), Dennis Farnon (RCA), and Axel Stordahl and Paul Weston from Columbia, whose work in forming the Academy directly led to the creation of the Grammy Awards.
