Flannels is owned by Frasers Group plc, the UK retail group formerly known as Sports Direct International.

Founder and early history

Flannels was founded in 1976 by Neil Prosser in Liverpool as a men’s fashion retailer. Over the years, it grew into a chain of mid-to-high-end fashion stores in the UK, known for stocking designer labels and contemporary brands.

Ownership by Frasers Group

In 2012, Frasers Group (then Sports Direct International) bought a 51% majority stake in Flannels. Then, in September 2017, Frasers Group completed a full acquisition and now wholly owns the Flannels brand and all its stores.

Frasers Group is led by CEO Michael Murray and is controlled by Mike Ashley, who remains the largest shareholder. Under Frasers Group, Flannels has expanded significantly, with over 50 locations across the UK including mainline stores, juniors (Flannels Jr), and outlets.
