Waterstones is currently owned by the hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation, which acquired a majority stake in the chain in 2018 and remains its controlling shareholder as of 2026. Russian businessman Alexander Mamut, who bought Waterstones in 2011, now holds only a minority interest through his investment vehicle Lynwood Investments.
