Lazarus was a close friend and follower of Jesus, described in the Bible as “the one you love,” and he lived in Bethany with his sisters Mary and Martha. In the Gospel of John, he is the man whom Jesus raised from the dead after four days in the tomb, a miracle that deepened many people’s belief in Jesus and also intensified opposition to him.
