The Governor-General of India during the Revolt of 1857 was Lord (Charles John) Canning.

He served as Governor-General from 1856 to 1862, so he was the one who had to face and suppress the Revolt of 1857 and then oversee the transition from East India Company rule to direct rule of the British Crown.
