The classic work The Art of War is traditionally attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu (also known as Sunzi or Sun Wu), who is said to have lived around the 5th–6th century BCE.

Many modern historians, however, note that parts of the text were likely compiled or edited later, during the Warring States period, so while Sun Tzu is credited as the author, the book may reflect contributions from later military thinkers as well.
