The famous song “Volare” (original title “Nel blu, dipinto di blu”) was written by Italian singer‑songwriter Domenico Modugno (music and co‑lyrics) and lyricist Franco Migliacci.

Modugno composed the melody and shared writing credit on the Italian lyrics with Migliacci, whose surreal, dreamlike words were inspired by paintings of Marc Chagall.
