The song “Wild Thing” was written by American songwriter Chip Taylor, born James Wesley Voight, in the mid‑1960s.

It was first recorded by the New York band the Wild Ones in 1965, but that version didn’t chart. The track became famous when British band the Troggs released their version in 1966, taking it to number one in the United States and number two in the UK.
