why does the postmaster send money to lencho why does he sign the letter god
The postmaster sends money to Lencho because he is deeply moved by Lencho’s simple and absolute faith in God after the hailstorm destroys all his crops. He wants to help Lencho in his moment of crisis and at the same time avoid breaking that innocent belief that God will surely send him help.
He signs the letter as “God” so that Lencho will feel his prayer has been answered directly by the divine power he wrote to, and his faith will remain firm and unshaken. In this way, the postmaster’s act becomes a symbol of human kindness acting as the “hand of God” in the story “A Letter to God.”
