The television industry mourns the loss of Elise Finch, a talented meteorologist who spent 16 years at WCBS in New York. Finch, aged 51, passed away at a local hospital. The cause of her death remains unknown at this time, according to an official statement from WCBS.
WCBS announced the devastating news, describing Finch as a gifted professional who approached her work with great care. She was not only highly regarded for her meteorological expertise but also known for her active involvement in the community, particularly in her hometown of Mount Vernon. Above all, Finch was a devoted mother to her daughter Grace and a loving wife to Graig Henriques, a photojournalist at WCBS.
Colleagues and friends paid tribute to Finch, who made her final appearance on WCBS’s newscast on Friday, July 14. Jessica Moore, a weekend evening anchor on WCBS, took to Twitter to remember her as fiercely loyal, honest, and a source of endless laughter. Moore emphasized Finch’s unwavering dedication to her family, particularly her daughter Grace, and expressed deep love and admiration for her departed friend. Chris Wragge, WCBS anchor, also expressed his sorrow, stating that the team would never be the same without her and highlighting their shared love for music.
Finch joined CBS New York in April 2007 after gaining experience as a meteorologist at NBC, where she worked on the “Early Today Show,” MSNBC, and NBC Weather Plus. Prior to her time at NBC, she served as the weekend weather anchor at the CBS affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona. Finch’s career began behind the scenes at E! Entertainment Television before she transitioned to on-screen roles at CBS and Fox affiliates in Youngstown, Ohio, and the ABC affiliate in Austin, Minnesota.
Born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Elise Dione Finch Henriques attended Mount Vernon High School before pursuing her studies at Georgetown University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree and received one of the prestigious President’s Awards. She furthered her education at Syracuse University, obtaining a master of science degree in broadcast journalism. Finch completed the broadcast meteorology program at Mississippi State University and was granted the seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.
